Don’t get upset, its constructive criticism. I bet you’ll think twice about it on the next sailfish.

Not upset, takes a whole lot more than a few salt old men trying to “educate” to get me fired up, and I did think twice before we pulled him out, but as posted before wanted the photo op.
Yankee who?
See ya’ll tomorrow - I’m out!
Nice fish.
If i’d have caught that fish i would have had a pic. Seeing as ho it would be my first one but I do agree with tlread , dont catch five and take pics of every one.

Hey Greg1 for your info if i ever go to Alaska (which is on the list) and get a shot at a polar bear, it will be on the wall. Or maybe I will mount the whole thing. Is that acceptable to you? OH and I dont believe for a minute that you have never taken a sail out of the water! If you are as hardcore as you act then maybe you should quit fishing! Don’t you realize that a foul hook or even that stress of a fight alone could mortally wound a fish? By the way, just becuase someone doesn’t share your opinion doesn’t make them a greenie. I agree with you on being a conservationist but that doesn’t mean I will be voting for H. CLINTON!

I would not a gree with catching 5 sails and taking pics of all of them.

That’s cool if that’s what you want to do…sellfish, but I won’t call the cops on you…just don’t post it on the internet as a “perfect release” for every newbie with a > 20 foot boat to see and want to emmulate.
It’s like fishing shows on ESPN2 where you see guys releasing legal YF tuna. I’m sure they keep a ton to eat but the ones they show on TV are the ones they release. They do that so that the masses get the idea of conserving the resource. Same thing here.
Besides…there are plenty of ways to photograph billfish without removing them from the water.

Good on ya for hooking your dad up, that’s what it is all about. Just for the record, Sail fish, are good eats as are whites, blues stripe, black’s. And so is SEA TURTLE. Taste like chicken (the turtle).
Local Boy, Just having fun.

Originally posted by Henry OldFished Edisto Banks on 6/9 with some local friends and my old man from the upstate. Way out was nice, ran at 28-30 knots. Started working the ledge at 6:45 am with several short strikes and a few cudas. Moved out towards 226 and worked an edge with a pretty good line that was holding a few fish, just weren’t eating. Managed to pick a few bulls out and a mercury missle along with a few Cudas. We needed a little tunny and a shark to complete the day. Tried every color possible. The final tally on skirts and lures tried was 34. Ryan and myself worked out a$$ off! Worked back to the ledge and then south to get a better angle for the run in and ended the day with a nice sail (day maker). He ate a pink and white islander first, then moved on to a small green and blue. It was my dad’s second trip off shore and his first sail. I belive his comment was,“That was worth the trip down, I think I’ll drink another beer!” Ride home was wonderful at 35 knots.
Almost forgot to mention, Dad narrowly escaped his dunk at the dock. Lets just say he’s got one coming!

BTW I hope Greg1’s dad enjoyed a beer after the catch like your dad did.

I’m new here, but old to fishin and I’m also all about conservation. Some of you guys (and I wont mention any names) say you are trying to teach the younger guys “newbies as you call them” the proper way to handle fish. I’m sorry but I feel your going about it all wrong and that you’ll be lucky if some of these newbies dont go out next weekend and catch sailfish, bring them in the boat for pics, chop them to pieces, chum up some sharks to feed on them and photo op it all just to bring the pictures back and post them to piss you guys off.
Nice fish Henry, I’m sure the pics were worth it. I also feel that in the future you will most likely handle your fish in a different manner to help ensure they have the best chance for survival.
Lesson learned…Move on.
seems to me that since there isnt one way we can all agree on to release a sail and be 100% the fish will survive, i am going to start making sure our homeless dont go hungry and we dont have dead fish floating in the ocean. i guess im drying them all out. i am thinkning about having a fish fry and having some fried sailfish nuggets, with cole slaw and baked beans, oh, and some hush puppies. if i invite you over, dont ask what you’re eating if you dont want to hear the truth.
edited to say-- nice catch dad, you have a good son to take you out and put you on a nice fish like that.
