Edisto Banks on Saturday

I have been surprised by the lack of reports from this past weekend so I will post a short report on what we did on Saturday at Edisto Banks.

Lines in at 8:30, gaffer in the box at 9am, another slightly larger one at 9:30, each went around 15#'s. Good start, then we went the rest of the day with short hits and fish that were only on for a few seconds before they shook off. Call it 0 for 10 the rest of the day. If we didn’t have those two in the box I would have flipped out, it was frustrating. Hooks were sharp, anglers were engaged and attentive the whole day. Heard radio chatter on other boats about short hits too, it seemed very common. Most boats only had a couple/few fish in the box. Did hear of some wahoos and blackfin for other boats. I think I had a wahoo pick up a bait as I was dropping back the Way Back, the reel started screaming and as I eased the drag down it just went slack. Reeled in the bait with no ballyhoo. Frustrating. I counted 12 boats within the immediate area with another 8 or so further North on the ledge. Decent crowd but still plenty of room. Scattered weeds.

I will say we had NO action on the flatlines or close baits. Wayback got half of all the hits and long riggers the rest. Purple/Black were definitely the color of choice. 3-4’ on the way out but at a decent interval, little push from behind on the way back made for better ride home. It was very doable in the 25’ Edgwater making around 28-35 mph each way.

Not a ton of meat but a great time with a great crew. Like I said, hardly any reports from Saturday so I hope this helps you all out.

I think the full moon had fish feeding at night so they weren’t feeding as aggressively during the day. Heard Sunday was not any better.

Got a later start but we were at Edisto banks too. We had several short strikes as well. Picked up a cuda, nothing else. Frustrating is a good word for the troll. found some live bottom on the way in and picked up a few bsb.

It’s almost July, trolling is slowing way down, add in a full moon and it’s time to bottom fish.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Short strikes are often the small jacks if your close to weeds. Try fishing deeper and slower. I was told if the full moon rises early fish the evening if the full moon is late fish the early morning. The dolphin bite slows once summer starts.

Same report for Sunday we went 3/12 and the 3 were a cuda, king, and bonita. Hard knockdowns and empty hooks.

I agree on all points above, just thought the report would help out the anglers wondering what was going on out on the ledge last weekend. The fishing may have slowed but there were still at least 20 boats fishing Edisto Banks including several large sportys. On the way in near the shipping channel we converged with two Freeman’s hauling tail running one behind the other from the north. Georgetown Hole maybe? There were still plenty of boats who decided to give a shot, I’m glad we went. One boat at EB reported 4 wahoo and a few dolphin in the box, that is a good day no matter what month it is.

We fished Sunday down South near the Deli and it was pretty slow. Caught a few fish, one nice bull that was the day maker, and fought a sail for a while before she decided she had had enough of us. Beautiful ride home on flat seas.

Inlaw did yall ever find a weedline? We were at the deli as well and ran all the way to 1000ft and never found one. Saw scattered weeds at 250ft so tried those but spent the day clearing lines. Ended the day with nothing in the fish boxes.

We are still picking at them.
