Had a great weekend at our local Governors Cup tourney, and as usual Brian and Becca Bell put on a great event. Huge numbers of sailfish plus a few blues including a 484#er that was the only landed fish of the series for Anticpation. They hooked up around 11am and fought the fish past lines out time and got to the scales less than five minutes before the deadline, flying down the creek to collect the $68,000 prize. Proving that even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then, Fortunate Son managed to get on the board day 2 to avoid finishing DFL. Checked radar before leaving Thursday to see one 3 mile storm cell off Beaufort, only to be greeted by lightening and heavy rain that lasted for 40 miles of white knuckles. Thankfully it cleared and we had a nice ocean. Missed one really good chance day 1. Had a sail rise on the flat line. Dropped back but he never picked it up. As we we reeling in to check the bait he came up hard. Took the bait but didmt stick. Big storm on Friday so stayed home. Forecast was not good for Saturday and I had actually decided to call it for us, but the 7 pm fire adt was trending to the good so we decided to poke our nose out in the morning, and found a manageable ride so we gave it a go. Right after lunch finally had a sail come up on the short, and then move to the long. Dropped back through the clip and came tight and got a quick release. Great to come in with a flag. Huge crowd on the dock and in the creek for the weigh in.
Shout out to Mr. Pete for winning 3 of the 5 events and the overall. I consider myself a decent fisherman but watching these teams is really impressive. They are in a whole other league. Thanks to Capt. Brett Wood of Tina’s Trippin for the rigging lesson that probably got us our fish,. To top off things, they even had a live band on their boat Saturday night and being right behind them we had the best seat in the house.
