Edisto Offshore Reef

Still kind of new to the area & was looking for some info on the edisto offshore reef. Was looking to go out on Sat. I have been through Stono Inlet a few times going out to 4KI… Pretty tough place. Wanted to take my nephews up from Florida out bottom fishing. Any info would be appricated. A co-worker recommended the Y-72 or Commanche for more quality fish. Any thoughts?

We go out of Shem Creek…don’t know a thing about Stono Inlet…sorry. I’m sure some guys on here do though. Go to the resources tab on the top of this page and then go to reefs. It has all of the way points and reefs. Also helps if you buy a maps unique and use that in conjunction with the way points of the reefs. The reefs hold plenty of fish but when you use your maps unique you’ll see a ton of live bottom in the same areas that don’t get near the pressure as some of the reefs. That’s our logic anyway. We usually have better luck with grouper/snapper away from the reefs around high spots on the live bottom. Hope this helps.

If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.

Stono inlet very defined right now. Hang a left after the green marker which is after you pass kiawah island on your right and then head straight north til u pass the big shoal on your right and then u can hook a right and go around the shoal and about 25 miles to edisto offshore reef- you can navigate it on any tide right now no prob and have at least 5 feet of water- just look for the whitewater and breaking waves and make sure you don’t go towards them and you will be fine

Thanks for the info. Is this reef better for bottom fishing or trolling?

Bottom fish are gonna be better on the live bottom away from the reef, but that has already been said.
If you just want to hook them up on some fish the EOS is great for that.
We fish the EOS a lot. Normally we start this time of year by slow trolling live menhaden over and around the structures (hopefully a king will show up). Next we will rig a couple of ballyhoo with skirts and bump the speed up to around 7-8 mph and go over the structures again. After that we bottom fish and/or dive. You should be able to catch Reefdonkeys on the troll if nothing else and maybe a few spotted wahoos (cudas).
There is some areas of live bottom close by that holds some nice BSB but you are on your own as far as numbers go on that.
Good luck!

Flats I agree with RDW about the bottom fishing. I fish out of the South Edisto and fish all 3 “Edisto” reefs, the 40, the 60 and the facility. Unless you are looking for small spanish in the fall the trolling is best the farther you go out obviously, but there is something about 60 feet of water under the hull. If you are not at least that deep don’t bother trolling, at least that is what I have found.
