EEK, REEL ISSUE - Shimano Stradic 2500 FH

I purchased a new Star Lite 7 foot M(reviews were good from here), I like it.

Decided to clean my reel, got the schematics and went to work. I have a Shimano Stradic 2500FH. Took everything apart, cleaned, greased, put back together. At first the anti-reverse was working great without line, after winding the braided line on the reel, I can pull the line with the anti reverse on…the mother scratcher spins! There is a little resistance compared to with it off, however, something is not right. Maybe too much grease, a part is reversed? Anybody have this experience or can lend me some assistance? Thank you so much, plan on getting on some reds tomorrow

Are you sure it’s spinning? Did you back the braid with mono or tape to keep it from slipping on the spool?

I should have asked if the handle was spinning backward.

It’s not slipping on the spool (i can reel backwards w/the anti reverse on), and yes the handle is spinning too; thanks jeepers for the diagrams, that guy was pretty good at showing how to take these things apart. There was a spring at the base where the anti-reverse switch meets the bearings…took me awhile but I put it back together. It’s still slipping but not as bad. I can tell it got lubed and shouldn’t have, hopefully the lube will work itself out in time…

There should not be any grease used on the anti-reverse roller clutch. The grease is too thick and cause it to slip. Only use a very light viscosity oil to lube it. I suggest taking it out and cleaning it with thinner or WD-40, dry, and reoil.
