effect of the rain

how is everyone expecting the rain to effect the shrimping?

what rain? the greater Charleston area didn’t get very much today…hoping maybe the inland areas wash down some fresh water and it does something…something is better than what it is now…

We got some rain here around georgetown the last 3 days. It wasnt as much as expected but I am new to the shrimping world and dont know how it will effect it. I have always heard rain is bad for shrimp. Before the baiting season I was catching a good amount free casting and then we got a few days of rain and they all turned small. I hope it is as good as it has been for me. I am going to try them again in the morning.

let us know if you find anything changed…can’t get much worse…

Rain puts more fresh water in the creeks. Shrimp like high salinity so when the water gets too fresh, they move to bigger bodies of water (harbors, bays, etc) and eventually they move out to the ocean. So yeah, you can probably expect an increase in smaller shrimp after a rain.

bonzo I have been doing well. I dont want it to change

Just made it back and thought I would report back. The shrimp were not where they were last thur and friday. I got a cooler each day in about 2 hours or a little over. Spend about two hours there today hoping they would turn on and they didnt. I only caught two shrimp total here. I was using a new 8ft net and I had been using a 6 footer and at first I thought that was the problem. I finally decided to make a move and went to where I was opening day and limited out in just over an hour. We baited up and gave it about 10 min and made a pass and finally started catching some. Ended up with 3/4 cooler. My observations are these: the shrimp were more mixed rather than the large I was catching and they were not as thick as before. However I think if I would have found them sooner I would have been home two hours earlier with a full cooler.
