Egg sinkers with Braid

Getting ready to spool up reels with Power Pro . Has anyone had any problems with rigging Carolina rig ? Maybe your line fraying or hanging up in your egg sinker .

Nope, not at all. I have more problems with losing leaders or hooks on the other end of the swivel due to me never changing out terminal tackle and putting on new leaders before I go.

Thanks Tigerfin , every time I get spooled up with mono lately from the cheapest to the most expensive it has a memory . When I let it all out behind the boat reel back in , it still has some memory .

I put a few feet of leader above the swivel also. Sometimes 8-9 on my surf setups

The sinkers need to be very smooth inside if using directly on the braid. I add a leader with Carolina rigs, about the only method with which I use a leader. I also don’t use egg sinkers on a Carolina rig. Instead I like worm weights as they don’t seem to hang as bad or get beat up as bad. I pour my own too.

As far as memory with mono, yes, it does have that and dragging it behind the boat really only helps with line twist, not so much with memory. Some brands are worse than others.

I’m guessing your fishing spinning gear too, and that also seems to be more of a problem with memory (and line twist) than with baitcasting gear.

If you haven’t already, try a spool of the Yozuri Hybrid Soft line. It’s made for spinning gear and seems to have less memory.

I went from mono lines to the Yozuri Hybrid years ago on some of my casting reels, and have used it on spinning gear, but really the Soft version is a bit better than the regular stuff on spinning reels.

Last thing, I used to use PP braid, but have switched to the Sufix 832. I like it better for casting & it doesn’t seem to fray as bad as the PP. Not everyone agree’s, but that’s what has worked well for me.

Been using braid for Carolina rigging for 15+ years - never used a separate leader for the egg sinker & never had an issue with lines getting frayed.

I agree with Jughead, all I do is tie a 2 foot spider hitch above the swivel and run a Carolina rig. And never have it fail. The more connections crimps,
loops, knots the more chance something will fail

Same here, keep it simple.

Lefty K knot or uni to uni from braid to leader. No swivel. A small split shot to keep the egg sinker in place. Less, hardware seems to work better

if I’ve got tight connection points I like to put a red bead on either side of the weight…in my mind it will keep from creating a weak point when the weight hits whatever it is up against, time after time after time after time…
