Thinking about getting an electric reel for deep dropping and maybe occasionally swordfishing. One friend recommended Daiwa Tanacom 500 Bull, and he knows his stuff. But I do want to understand the options. The entry Tanacoms run about half the cost of the entry Shimanos???
Looking at the specs, maybe the Shimanos are worth it? But I have no experience with electrics to compare. Its been over ten years since I bought any reel besides Shimano, and have been well pleased with them. But $400 more for a Shimano 6000 Forcemaster versus the 500 Bull, is a lot.
Electric reels? Never heard of them

I don’t think a tanacom bull will work for swordfishing.
Not sure about swords but a buddy of mine has a navy blue daiwa electric reel. I don’t know the model but I’m afraid he’s gonna sink the boat with that thing if he hooks the bottom! The daiwa seems really nice with the digital settings and those fish come up faaaasssst!

the tencom bulls are nice reels… the motors are a bit small and its silicone in they are almost impossible to work on when they need servicing.
the nice part is they made them in English the last few years… for the price they almost cant be beat.
if you check on tht a guy is offering a similar reel think the name starts with a k… but he has a full comparison with what he offers and the tancom bull… really good read honestly… has allot to do with the motors and shaft. he goes into depth about the motors and serviceability…
Why not start with an old penn electric reel cheap and easy

Thanks for the comments. The Banax sounds like a good deal and probably a good reel. But then there is also some “unknown” factor with them. For example the one guy’s order was a month late in delivery.
There are some who make electric drives for Senators, Tiagras, etc. who aren’t household names. But the south Florida guys speak highly of them. And they use more electrics than here.
At this point, I like the looks of the Daiwa Seaborg Megatwin 750, with separate gears for high speed or power retrieve?? Appears maybe Daiwa has been more into electrics than Shimano?? Think I need to put sword thing aside and focus on deep dropping. Bulls are good but they only come in 500 size and I hear they all hold less line than claimed. Ie may need 750.
Still not certain which…But I’m more convinced I do want an electric.
commercially fishing we used these http://www.precisionautoreels.com/
Same motors that Clipper and Thunderstar used
