Hey ya’ll so I am an idiot when it comes to my new boat but i am trying to learn and not afraid to get dirty and ask dumb ?'s So I have a stern light that is mounted on the poling platform top so the wires run through the rear post of the platform, well when attempting to cover the boat the fixed mount stern light pulled out and now is not screwed down, I don’t want it anymore, i want to buy a removable battery stern light. My question is if i cut the wires stick em down in the hole in the platform and seal her up will it affect the switch and the “shark eyes” bow stern lights as they are all on one switch? Thanks Also if i can seal it up what sealant would you suggest?
I would crimp the correct size butt connector on the wires and then paint the crimped and open end with Liquid Electric Tape, allow to dry, then stick them in the hole in the platform. This will prevent shorting of the wires and corrosion for quite a while.
If you want to get back in the hole…use 3M 4200, which allows you to remove the sealant. 3M 5200 is designed for permanent repairs/seals, although it can be removed with more effort and Break-Seal.
You could always just put a trailor-light type plug on the wires and the stern light and plug it up when you want it, take it down when you aren’t using it…

Instead of going the battery powered light, and I’m assuming that you mean the flashlight type anchor light, get an anchor light with an adjustable base? When you put the cover on your boat, just lower it down and when you are anchored lift it up.
But to answer your question…cut the wires and do like wildlife says. this will not interfere with your nav lights. Again I’m assuming that you have a three way switch…anchor light/off/both anchor and nav lights. If thats the case then just use the side of the switch to the nav lights. no problems. But I say again…think about the adjustable base type anchor lights
