battery in the boat is only 2 months old and this past weekend I noticed the alternator is not charging the battery when cranked…put the battery up to the trickle charger last night so will see how it is doing after work today…just had the boat routine serviced a couple months ago too…not sure if the alternator is something that is routinely checked on an annual service check up…5 year old 60HP Mercury 4 stroke…any suggestions? might be best to just have the dealer check it out?

Crank the motor, put your meter on the battery. You should read between 13 and 13.8 volts DC.

The “rectifier regulator” doesn’t sound good.

Sorry I missed you guys at lunch. I would have loved to hear the explanation.
its the opposite of a DC inverter
stator under the flywheel creates AC about 120-150 volts
rectifier regulator converts it to DC 12-14 volts
most common failure point
usually tach stops working at teh same time
