Sat went out and tied up to float. Turned off all my electronics. As I went to turn them on I noticed the Garmin wouldnt work, VHF wouldnt work, and all switchs wouldnt work (bilge, nav, livewell, acc, etc.) turned the key and my tac, fuel, and speed worked along with my trim tabs. So my question is. Could this be more a fuse problem? Lose wire? I cant follow the wires to find anything lose going to the GPS, and vhf. Nor can I find anything loose going to the switches. After looking at all the wires I got pissed because obviously whoever rigged the boat did a poor job wiring. It looked nasty down there trying to follow those wires. I think it needs to be cleaned up after I find the problem.
thanks for help in advance.

It sounds like a main boat harness breaker to me. It may not be tripped and just be a bad connection inside the breaker. The breaker is most likely right at the battery.
Sounds like your electronics are pulled from the same power supply as the dash switches. and if this is true, go back to the positive terminal on you battery or battery switch and you should see an in-line fuse most likely around 25 to 30 amps. There couild also be on in line breaker instead around 40 amps. also check the connections here.I would never rig a boat with the electronics powered from the dash switches. I always run a seperate power feed and ground to a fuse block just to keep them seperated. All it takes is the bilge or washdown pump to go out and the breaker to not trip and instead a fuse pops and you are left with out electronics many miles from home. Just my expert opinion though. Once you track down the problem the you need to figure out why it happened so it does not happen again.

Havana thanks man. Good call. I looked at it today. Looks like you might be right. im going to break it down in a little bit. The folks I got the boat from have made me so mad… one thing right after another. its only a year old and been to the shop 12 times. poo on that. all the stuff i have had problems with is electrical and or livewell pump related.

I ran across a similar situation with my boat. My VHF and FM radio would not come on. Thought I had a chaffed positive wire from the battery to the splitter box because I only had 4.8 volts going to the splitter box. Pulled a new positive wire thru made the connection and Well you guessed it no dice. I had checked the in line 20 amp fuse with a meter and it tested good. I decided to pull the fuse to have a good look at it and I could not pull it out with my hand. So I got a pair of pliers and found the fuse was corroded. I replaced it with a new fuse and everything worked great. The corrosion prevented a full 12 volts to pass to the splitter box. I needed a heavier service wire to the box anyway so it was needed anyway. Hope this helps. Start at the fuse and work your way to the electronics checking voltage along the way!!
