Electrical ?

My male plug to the trolling motor shorts the circuit breakers, as soon as it is plugged in. It’s not even spliced to the TM wires yet?? New out of the box! And yes it does have the proper grove, I’m not forcing it in. I’m using 2-12 volt batts. wired parallel, with circuit breakers on each batt.(+)cable. The TM works fine when connected straight to one battery. Any ideas?

Sounds like the plug is shorted, or its the wrong plug. Two 24 volt battery’s??? I hope you mean two 12 volt battery’s. Also for 24 volts 12 volt battery’s are wired in series. Your Neg. to one Neg on one battery, the Pos. to the Pos. on the other battery, and a jumper from the other Neg. to the other Pos.

Thanks for your correction! I'm not after 24 volts, just plenty of 12 volts, hence the parallel application. Could the plug be shorted inside the casing ? Maybe??? Also, what difference would the wrong plug make, if it's not connected to anything? Not trying to be a smart elic, only asking!!

Yes sir, it can be.

So if I check for continuity on the end of the wires, and there is, the plug is shorted I’m guessing? And thanks for the help!!

Yes sir. If your reading continuity between the two pins on the new male plug and its not plugged into anything, Its shorted!
