Electrolysis Jon Boat

I have pitting along the bottom of my 2004 1756 Triton Jon boat in several places where the boat rest on the carpet covered wooden bunks. The trailer is a galvanized Wesco trailer that I have had for 1 year but the wood bunks are micronized cooper azole treated if that is a problem.
The problem may have started before I changed trailers but I don’t think so. The deck of the boat is filled with foam so I am told will be a problem with welding.

Would appreciate any suggestions on welders that have experience with fixing this type of problem and also what may have cause the problem.
The boat is used in salt water approx once a week but not left in the water.

Make sure you don’t have a short on the wiring for your brakes, or that you don’t have a short in the boat of some sort. That is a shot in the dark though. You’re apparently getting some sort of voltage going through the boat.

For giggles, you might want to test it next time you pull your boat from the water. Leave everything connected ( trailer brake lines, marine battery, etc), and use a multimeter set to DC voltage. Personally I’d put the red contact on the boat very close to the bunks, and put the black contact in the ground hole of an outlet (an extension cord can help here). Much of any reading could indicate you have electrical current passing through, although I’m sure that there could be some residual “noise” of some sort from induction from sunlight or whatever on the boat.

You might want to consider putting some sort of coating over the metal where your bunks are. I’m not sure what the best material would be, but I think perhaps an etching primer followed by Rustoleum.
