electronics question

So I think my fish/depthfinder is on the blink. Probably time for Davey Jones’ locker as it’s 10yr old Humminbird (came with the boat). I have a small boat (15ft) and fish the inshore mainly…but I’ll likely upgrade to 17ft with plans for more exploration in prob 5yrs or so. I use the depth finder mainly right now but could imagine using a gps oriented unit with the bigger boat. If I had a gps now I might use it some for runnin’ at night and marking spots (and for fun - kinda always wanted one).
So, should I get a cheap $100 depthfinder now and get a handheld GPS in the $300 range and plan on the df going with the boat when I upgrade. Or should I get a df/gps combo in the $5-600 range and plan on keeping it for the next boat?

I am no expert but, I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 441s and so far, really like it. It has some really cool features (I sprung for the g2 vision card because of the $200 rebate). It probably has more features than I will ever use being that I am an inshore fisherman but, it is really nice.
