Having trouble getting my Garmin Gps/depth finder to come on. I have checked power and there is power to unit. Anyone local that repairs these units?
Even if you are seeing 12v at the connector when checking with a meter, it’s always possible, especially if you have a bend in the wiring when connecting to the back of the unit, that the connection could be flakey.
Just to be sure, I would try yours on another boat wired for your unit before sending it off. I’m sure you wouldn’t have a problem finding someone with a compatible garmin that would let you give it a try .

or just bring it by any store with garmin demos set up and see if they will plug yours in
Had the same thing happen to my 547xs! Worked fine one day and wouldn’t turn on the next! Put a meter on the power input and had over 12 volts! Called Garmin and they said that if there was over 10 volts that was good enough. It is over 1 year old so it’s out of warrantee! I can send it in and they will replace it with a reconditioned unit for $250. I just bought another unit! I’ll sent it in later and get a new transducer for the trolling motor and mount the reconditioned one up on the bow! Plugged the new unit in and it came right on, so there is something messed up inside the old unit! The trouble with sending the old unit in, is that they have no way to download your numbers and upload them to anything! They just sent the old busted unit back to Taiwan. Say goodbye to any numbers you had! If you get it working, download your numbers to a micro disk!
I know it’s a long shot, but this happen to me several years ago on a 441 Garmin. (I think that was the model) Mine ended up being that somehow the contrast was turned all the way down.

That’s interesting Drippin! How did you get it turned back up, if you couldn’t see the screen!
My Lowrance was doing the same thing. Some research indicated that battery should be fully charged. Charged battery fully (as I recall meter showed 13.5 volts)and unit worked fine. Also try a wiping motion on key pad instead of simple pressure to turn on. That was a suggestion from Lowrance. Discussion suggested that as key pads age connections deteriorate. As a post scrip: A local appliance repairman recently was called to repair a microwave that would not come on. His fix-clean the touch pad contacts. Not an option on sealed marine electronics.
EASY, I called Garmin tech support, mainly to send it back to get refurbed. He wanted me to try this first, and he walked me through the steps. Apparently happens somewhat often.

Thanks for all the insight. Going to try a few things first then make a decision. Unit is to old for a replacement so either it works or buy new one shortly. My try another power cord first because one pin connection was bent and I tried to get straight but being on the female end not sure it is correct.
