I have an older Garmin 498 that will not power up. I bought a new power cord and it did not solve the issue. Is there anywhere locally that works on these units?

Not sure about a repair shop. Did you disconnect the cable and check if the unit was getting at least 12.5 volts DC? Those things will not power up on a weak battery.

I tried it with two different batteries that showed full charges. I then checked the pins on the plug and it shows current going to the pin. I then coated the connections with Dielectric grease and still no powering up.

Mackay Marine repaired my Furuno. They installed a new power plug and got me a new cable. It was a couple of years ago but they only charged me about $100.

i have sent my 4208 back to garmin for a standard repair rate… basically they give you a totally rebuilt unit. it worth every penny.
