I am thinking of updating the electronics in the boat this spring. The boat currently has a lowrance lcx-26c installed in the dash. I will include a picture. I am not sure of age but I imagine it was a current unit when the boat was purchased new. I am the second owner of the boat I have a few issues with the unit, maps are out of date, and the unit will freeze on a depth randomly at any speed. (power cycling fixes this)
I need opinions on new unit to replace existing for less than $1000.00 installed. I would prefer it be mounted in same location. Do I need a new transducer? I figured I would if I changed brands. I need some education on the subject.
Call me Cliff and I will be glad to talk to you about options
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7---- 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”
Read my posts in the topic “Transducer location” and you’ll understand why I can’t recommend Humminbird. If you’re willing to spend in excess of $1000.00 to $1500.00, stick with Lowrance. Buy the biggest screen that you can afford and have room for on your boat.

I have a Lowrance lms337-c. I am planning on upgrading this year to one of the elite series dsi’s l. I was going to get the elite 5 dsi, but now they have come out with the elite 7 HDI. The version with the navionics gold chip and the 83/200 and 455/800 kHz transducer is $769.00 most places and by most reviews is an awesome unit. I think I’ll be getting one this year as long as I don’t have any unexpected surprises.
I bought an HDS 7 Gen 2 and just got back from an extended trip. I am having it installed as I write but I did my homework and am looking forward to my new toy. Will gladly give ■■■■■■■■ after installation. Lowrance had a pretty good deal that ended at the first of the year and I was able to take advantage, still a little salty, around $1500.00 complete not counting install
I have the HDS 7 gen2 w/ the structure scan. I love everything about it. Alot of people are jumping on the elite7 band wagon. I personally do not like them. But I have only used the Hds units. After using an hds then going to the elite is using a cordless drill versus a screw driver in my opinion. Both will get the job done but at different prices. The elite7 has no “exit” button which drives me nuts. I just hate trying to navigate the elite’s menus versus the hds, but thats what i am used to. Play with them both if you can before buying.
Ignore the march due date on the elite units. My buddy has had his for close to a month already.
