Elliott Cut Spottail

Got up early and dropped a line along a seawall on Elliott Cut this morning. Within 10 minutes pulled in a 22" spottail, released in good condition. Noticed a very unique circle hook already in his jaw, which means he was the same fish that took my rig over the wall a few days ago. He would have made a great lunch!

BAIT: Large Mullet head
RIG: Direct hook to end of 30# braid, with a large split shot about 2’ up the line
TECHNIQUE: Fished directly against the oyster-coated seawall in about 1’ water
TIDE: Rushing in pretty fast

I think the key to fishing the Cut is dropping in slow water that is directly adjacent to fast water, or maybe just luck.

Best to all,
JI

nice one! sounds like you got that fish trained if you are catching him the same way twice in a row =)

Where is this elliot cut you speak of? I have been in need of some land spots…

“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman

Actually hooked him about a minute before, but he spit the bait. Soon as I dropped it back in, BAM! So that’s three times. I figure he gave me enough fun to live and grow.
