hello fellow fisherman and penfishin and lsk. i have fished ellis creek before from boat and had some nice fish on. never landed anything though. i launched from under the bridge on the river by ellis creek and paddled down in the summer but not a bite. well i know a place that i can launch the yak from a small paddle from the mouth of the creek. i know of a few docks that might hold some fish on the way down their. but my main question is regarding those flats at the mouth of the creek. has anybody ever kayak fished that area? i think i read some where that that wasnt a winter spot but im not sure where. can you guys please point me in the right direction to fishing this place? i also posted in the kayak forum
A small fish in hand is better than big fish in promise
sounds like you are referring to the plum island flat. Plenty of reds school up there in the winter. Best area on that flat is typically between the “white cross” and mouth of what I call plum island creek, there are several oyster points the fish like to stage around. Bite usually turns on best for me about an hour after low tide. Pearl white jerkshad, mud minnow free-lined, and cut mullet are all easy choices for bait. And yes have fished it from a yak. Actually caught my first red ever 24 years ago on that flat. Good luck and hope this helps…keep in mind those fish get fished hard by many anglers so be stealthy and watch carefully.

Ellis Creek way towards the back used to be amazing Redfish fishing. Once the small menhaden moved in. You could slay em all day under the trees, but ever since they raped Oak point and built up all around Lowes, and dropped all those docks in the water the fishing has all but died off back there. In my opinion.

Get you a nice calm day, and drop in at Bowens, Folly landing, or even right under the bridge were that new horrible resturaunt is were the Anchor Line used to be going out towards folly. THey are closed in the off season and you can put in there and go R or L and have alot of fun skinny water fishing.
Get out There!
