engine/motor problem

I recently had a little pleasure cruise on my 1720CC Key West with a 90HP 2 stroke Yama. Our first voyage. Got to a point and killed the motor then tried to crank it back on a few minutes later and it would not turn. The motor would not even trim up or down. Long story short w were towed by a friend and took the battery to get checked out. They said it was fine, but had no charge. Bought a charger that could work with deep cycle marine batteries. Let the battery charge all night long till this morning when it said 100%. Hooked it back up and the motor was able to trim up and down. Then I tried to crank the sucker. No luck. Right after that the motor would not trim at all. Still says 100% on the charge. Bad battery or could there be something more mischievous going on?

check out your lugs on the battery cables. mine got corroded and frail(over the last 8 years). put new lug on the positive cable and now it is super. just a thought.

On the 90, check under the cowling on the starboard side where the electric harness plugs in. If it’s loose, the engine gets no power from a fully charged battery for trim or starting.

BTW, that engine is very easily pull started </font id=“orange”></font id=“red”>with a rope. Even a middle-age man like me does it easily with a small dock line. Just take off the outer cowling and the plastic cover over the fly-wheel. Tie a small knot in the end of small dock line, wind, pull, and drive home! Beats waiting for a tow. I’ve done it myself.

Thanks for the help! The problem ended up being a bad battery connection, but anything helps. I’m very new to boating, so I’m learning all sorts of stuff each time I take it out. Or attempt to in some cases!
