Apparently I got some debris blocking the lower unit intake and shut down the water circulation on Saturday. Engine apparently has a auto shut off that killed it after a couple minutes of operation without cooling. Smoke was coming out of every part of the engine and when i took the cowling off water was boiling off the engine block. i raised the motor and removed the weeds from the intake. i let it cool down and started it back up and water pumped fine. question is whether any damage was done while operating at high temps. it was probably only 1-2 minutes before it shut itself off. Thanks
there is no auto shut off
it does have an rpm reduction ability if its low on oil or overheats, but nothing shuts it off.
if the motor gets hot enough, it will seize, and when it cools down, it can free up, but it usually causes major damage
Chris,
There was a definite buzzer sound when I turned the key. I assumed it was a warning of some kind due to overheating. It probably was an RPM reduction that occured as opposed to a shut off. It was only 30-45 sec so I hope no damage was done. It ran OK after getting the water pump working again.
