Engine problems

My brothers boat will rev real high and slow down while cruising, we are just trying to get an idea of what the problem may be before he takes it any where.

What is the year, make, model of the motor?

If I had to guess, it would be a fuel issue or partly blocked carb… but that’s just a first guess knowing nothing about the motor at all.

Not sure of year maybe a 94 or 96 but it is a 70 nissan 2 stroke

As long as its not misfiring I would suspect a fuel problem, either in fuel flow to the motor or a partly blocked jet. Could be a vacuum leak somewhere. Either way, you don’t want to lean out a two stroke motor messing around with it, or you will be buying a new one.

Sounds like its time to take it into the shop.

Could have a spun prop.

fishcrazy could be right. I would recommend marking a straight line from the prop down on to the hub with a sharpie and then running the boat. That way you can see if the hub is spun if the line you marked does not line up anymore. Just an easy way to check for a bad hub that I was taught.

2x what fishcrazy said, spun prop…

Well I found a video on youtube called Spun Prop? but it doesn’t have any conclusive comments but it sound and seems really similar to what happens with my brothers thank you all for the help.

Spun hub/prop = (typically of course) in gear with high rpms and no to low power/go. Think of it like a slipping transmission…
