I’ve heard Seels is too expensive. Coastal Marine? Henrys? Other ideas? I don’t know if my carbs need to be rebuilt or it’s a coil/electrical problem. '83 75 hp Evinrude, I thought I’d see if it couldn’t be repaired before I repower. Idles great, starts out great, but will not accelerate after it warms up (hence my thoughts on the coils). So who’s who in Mt P?
Berkeley Oytdoors! The Technicians are certified and well trained. They will not do you wrong. It’s worth the drive.
I live in Mt. Pleasant as well. Worth the drive to Charleston Marine…

Chris V at Charleston Marine. He has been on here for a long time giving great advice and answering questions for free.
Not taking anything away from the other guys, this is just my opinion of course, based on my experience.

seels can be pricy, but they are good at what they do
Roger over at Coastal mostly does electronics, not sure of his mechanical qualifications. I did mobile diagnostics on a boat that was hit by lightning for him, and he seems to be a good guy.
only experience I have with Henry’s, is I bought a gun from him many years back, and havent been back since.

Anytime you fix a boat it could be pricey.

Roger at Coastal can fix about anything. He is one hell of a mechanic, and honest as the day is long. Good people. He does specialize in electronics but also does motors. If he can’t fix it he will let you know right away and send you somewhere else. He is cheaper then the dealerships due to the fact that he does all the work himself and has alot less overhead than them. His work quality is top notch!
if you go to coastal make sure you tell him exactly what you want done or you will come back with a list of things he has done .also doesnt take credit cards.
I saw an add on craigslist for Dubose Marine that looked really appealing price wise. Unfortunateley I don’t know anything about them. I need to have a 150 Yamaha rebuilt and was going to see if anybody knew anything about them. I’m not trying to hijack the thread but it seems like we are both looking for the same type of work.
Had my truck at a diesel shop a couple weeks ago and next to it was boat repair…off of Longpoint and the guys said he was good…but also if trailering is not a problem have been very happy with the service from Charleston Marine…and work on the older stuff…

I guess its ok to bash Seels in this thread. They used to fix all of my problems on my old Pathfinder and I never had a problem with them or felt like they were expensive. They got it right the first time also and never had to come out and do one more thing at the landing to get me on the water.

Agree with Capt Fritz. Been using Seel’s for seven years. May be a bit more expensive; but, to me, the premium is worth not having to worry about their repairs being done right.

I have heard a lot of very good things about Seels. Might be a bit more expensive than a lot of the others mentioned, but there is a lot to be said for fixing it right the first time and standing behind your work. I have had so many bad experiences with a lot of the “dock walkers” as I call them, that I typically only deal with the dealers.
I would try and find someone who is trained in Evinrude. Not sure if you will find that in Mt. P. I am currently looking for a good Mercury mechanic as well. I just used one of the “dock walkers” that was referred from a friend and had yet another bad experience. Typically (in my experience) the smaller mechanics or “dock walkers” as I call them do great when everything is fixed correctly the first time. If it is not, good luck getting them to call you back.
Just checked and Seel’s is an authorized Evinrude dealer. I would take it there if it were me.
Not to hijack your thread, but anyone have any experience with Whitton’s Marine? They seem to be the only Mercury dealer in Mt. P. If you have any negatives, just pm me please. If Seel’s was a Merc dealer I would go there - but they are not.
Longshore Marine on Cainhoy by 526 has provided me w/ Merc parts.
How long has Seels been in business in this town?

I’ll agree with Chris V. Longshore did some work on my 250 Verado a few months back and i was very happy. Diagnosed and then called me to explain what they found and went over the pricing before they started the repair. Good communication and good turn around time…Their Mercury Tech was at the factory for school and they waited till he returned to do the work. So, I know they take the time to educate their techs…
Also very satisfied with the work I had done at Charleston Marine on another boat, as well as the advice from Chris when i was in the process of buying this boat from a broker in Jax…
the powers boys down at cape romain marine are certified evinrude and yamaha.shop rate is alot less than most. turn around is pretty quick.
