My 1990 GMC (350, auto) seems to either have a cracked block or a blown head gasket. I have water in the crankcase (milky fluid on dipstick, oil level rises a little every time I drive it).
The truck has a decent transmission, it doesn’t have more than 40K miles on it.
I have neither the skills, time, nor shop to fix the truck. So, either I need to sell it cheap on Craiglist, or find someone who could dump a cheap 350 in it for me.
I’m open for suggestions, I have several possibilities. I don’t know any mechanics in the area that could do engine swaps, so let me know if you have any suggestions.
If you want to buy this truck, I’d consider that too, haven’t decided on a price. You better like working on things or parting them out lol.
All I do with the truck is occasional commute to work (normally I carpool), fishing 2-5 times a month, and the occasional carpentry work. I don’t mind it being a gas hog. I’ve owned several smaller trucks (4 and 6 cyl) and none of them got more than 22mpg. I was getting 15 even on this old 350.

I got a new engine for my 98 Silverado with a 350. I ordered a new engine for around 2800 including a 5 year, 100K warranty. I also got the hook up kit, that consisted of new hoses, radiator, etc…Stuff I needed to have the warranty. I had Fipps and Sons out on Johns Island do the install. They picked up my truck on James Island and towed it. Rolled the price of the tow in with the install. I think install was around 800. The final price was closer to 5K, all said and done, but I figured it was worth it. It’s not my every day truck but certainly gets the job done.
Yeah if the truck were in better shape I’d possibly go that way. I can’t put even half that into it at the moment.
I think I’m going to sell it cheap on Craigslist, it would probably be a decent truck for someone who has time/skills to swap a head gasket or dump in a used motor. Or part it out.
