I have been drooling watching the forecast for a few days now and it finally paid off allowing me to take the 18 footer out for some bottom fish action. When we got on the Wando I knew it was going to be a great day with no wind present. Cleared the jettys at 8:30 to hit some live bottom for the usualls in 70 ft. After fiqureing out where to drop the hook relating to the structure with no current we made our first drop. Bam a good fish after getting him to the surface I was delighted to see a breeder redfish on the end of the line After bringing aboard for a quick pic I noticed he had a very old tag in his back after quickly scraping the alge layer off I got the info and revived the fish for a harmless release (free t-shirt for me:smiley:. After that we dropped again to start filling the box with ringtails and a few 17in. bsbs. When we were about to move we were paid a visit by a huge mola-mola, took some pics and moved on. Next stop first drop riverrunner hooks and lands a nice doormat flounder. This spot proceded to keep us interested for 2 hours pulling up bid knot head bsbs two and three at a time. The limit was full on the bsbs so we gave our rock to some other fellas and bounced all over looking for some other stuff and found many more bsbs and a few porgys, charleston snapper, and more ringtails. No grouper or reds but it wasnt for lack of trying.
The ocean was a sight to behold today and I could not be more happy that I took the day off work. It was litterally as slick as a bathtub allowing wide open runs in and out. On the way in we did have to batten down the hatches when we hit a patch of 4 inch swells probably caused by a migrating bluefin:smiley:. It was a great day for riverrunner and myself on the nicest ocean I have seen in a long time. I took some real nice pics to post later or tomarow. There were alot of boats out so I hope everyone else was able to put some blood in the boat. I did see a few grouper and reds caught in 65ft but it just was on the wrong boat:frowning_face:

Glad you finally made it out. We will hook up soon, hard for me to take off much this time of year with all the lost work days with the holidays. We will get some grouper & reds. plan on fishing over the christmass break weather permitting. Trying to run the dogs a few more times before locking them up untill next Aug.
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
Bug catcher,
Let me know anytime you need an extra hand, I would love to chase the snapper and grouper with you. Hope you get some free time over the hollidays and are able to fish. I wish I had your 100ft digits down south cause I coulda been there:wink:
Nice Day! Looks like a lake out there. I’m definately looking forward to getting out there soon. Need to get some KEEPER grouper and snapper in the “Reel Wet”.
I’ve got enough bsbs to last awhile. I think next time I will solely use the grouper rig with a nice livey and hold it all day long when we get back out there.
the flounder and redfish bite those gulps?
nope the flounda ate a minnow and the red took squid as did the bigger bsbs.
Nice work Dan. Don’t get many days with the ocean flat as a tabletop. Sweet.
There is nothing - absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame
Nice ad for gulp.
That would be a great ad, perhaps I will send the folfs at Berkley a copy.
Riverrunner,
I want that mola-mola pic. Please email it to me
