My words of wisdom to my young employees are to never get married. If you fail to listen to rule 1, rule 2 is to never have kids. I have broken both of my own rules and having an infant in the house has limited my time chasing the reds on the flats. The last time I went was mid April I believe. After fixing some gremlins in my motor and having a hall pass I decided to head out this past Sunday. All of my usual partners had prior engagements so I headed out alone. Zero wind and a bluebird sky didn’t help my confidence. I figured the reds would be a little too cautious and spooky to venture out on the flats at the high tide. I was wrong. I waded Sunday morning from about 930am until 1130am and had the most action packed bout of redfish OTF in my short career. Since I haven’t made time to fish much I was using a leader and fly tied on from last year. I decided to skip changing the leader and go on. I proceeded to go 6 for 6 in the 1st hour with all fish pushing the slot or over. My decision to not replace the leader was a bad decision as I then went 1 for 3 with 2 break offs. Changed the leader and coaxed 4 more into taking and bringing them in. Ended the day 11 for 17 with 2 break offs, 2 spooks, and 2 pulled hooks mid fight. First break offs in over 3 yrs, so it should have been 13 for 17. Regardless I posted my personal best for a single wade session at 11 fish brought to hand. Great day that will be tough to beat. All fish were at slot or over, up to 29" and all released.
That sounds like a great day! Good job!

If you weren’t a fly fisherman, I’d call ‘fish story!’. But, man, that’s some serious success. I’ve had some days where I’ve seen a ton of fish but still haven’t hit a double digit hook up day yet.
Sounds like an incredible day …
experience noun \ik-#712;spir–#601;n(t)s
-
the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation
-
that thing you get just moments after you needed it.
Forgot to mention, lost 2 of my go to flies, the raz red and finished up the last 5 fish on a black spoon fly. I look for weedless capabilities and hook set percentage on the flies before anything else. They are there to eat, just a matter of putting anything in their face
Thats stuff we like to hear!
I had one of my legs on my fly tangle up in my leader on the last trip. after unsuccessfully trying to get the entire leg out I said F it and kept on fishing. Shouldve changed the leader but got lazy. Next cast fish on and he snaps it at the knot. Goes 15 yards and starts tailing again. Tie on again…cast bam hits the second one and pop. Somewhere, theres a fish with two flies hanging on his mouth. Learned a valid lesson.

If the cast is right, I have yet to not have a hookup on the below fly.
