I got a super secret report that there were YFT on the other side of the stream off of Savannah soooo, we said what the hell.
Left the dock at 330am and headed south 148miles. Lines in at 7:45 and got hooked up on a small phin on a floating 2x4. Moved on and picked up 2 more dolphin. Left rigger goes off and we are hooked up with a blue. Father in law man handles her and we release a 100lb small blue. While fighting the blue, Pat hooks up on what feels like a tuna. Straight down and pulling. Hooks pulled, oh well.
The action died off, so we picked up and ran 70 miles back to 800ft where everyone was picking at the small dolphin on nice rip with scattered weeds. We ended up catching 6 more. Called it a day at 430p and cruised on home at 47mph.
All in all we ran 331 miles and burned 269 gallons with our average cruise at 42mph. I have always wanted to run to the other side out of Charleston to see what we were missing. I have a feeling with a better moon phase and a little more research we can find that elusive Yellow.
BTW: The Gulf Stream is a cool area of the ocean. The visible rips are insane. We would go from 2-3’ seas one minute to flat calm the next. It was pretty breezy on the other side which was odd, then we get back to 800ft and it was slick calm. A few established weedlines in the middle of the stream, but not much life.
