Epirb - Seatow or BoatUS

Looking to Purchase a Epirb device and would like to hear from some of you as to which one is the best? Also need to join up with Sea tow or some reliable towing, who would you recommend? Thanks for any suggestions…

I have an ACR ResQLink+ PLB (not EPIRB Cat 1) and Sea Tow. Also have a ICOM M73 waterproof handheld VHF. After researching I felt these were best for myself and what I could spend at the time. Best $650-$700 spent that I hope I never have to use. Also contemplating getting a SPOT to be able to send messages to loved ones to let them know I’m okay on days weather gets rough or days I choose to fish longer than I advised on my float plan.

I would strongly suggest sea tow over tow boat us. I switched this year after having tow boat for many years. I think they are running a special for an extra 2 months right now as well.

As far a an eprib. I have a spot, worked for me for the passed few years but their yearly rates are going up. I’ll be purchasing an ACR PLB this year.

No problem man. Keep in mind I’m a rookie to this safety business. I’ve fished my whole life on boat VHF and a prayer. I’ve been towed by Tow Boat US without having a membership and 11 miles cost me $1150.

WOW!! Yeah I am for sure a ROOKIE! Lol…Prayer is my # one tool but I think it would be a good idea to have these things too. I use to fish some back in 2010 but been out of it for a while and a little rusty you could say and just need pointed in the right direction. My Daddy always told me that there wasn’t a such thing as a stupid question if you didn’t know…hoping to get out soon to catch some of those Mahi Mahi and praying to catch my first Wahoo… I love to bottom fish mostly but trying to learn how to do a little trolling too… thanks for your help.

Maybe so, prayer is good, but the Lord helps those who help themselves:wink: Be prepared for anything. I’ve had Sea Tow for a long time, never needed them but always glad they were there. A tow in from offshore is very expensive, thousands of dollars. A membership is less than $200 a year, including roadside trailer repairs.

Both of those companies are jam up and reliable.

Sea tow has been a great comfort for us. Also an Epirb or any personal hand held spot or something is the icing on the cake. Always be prepared and be safe.

If you don’t like it, oh well.
