ethanol free gas?

Leaving names out, while at a Marine repair/sales business the owner does his own testing on fuels. He stated that he has found ethanol blended in fuels that were labeled non-ethanol.

I have no proof other than knowing the owner for many years and seeing the test tube turn blue. Anyone else heard this? I won’t post what station as I don’t know the truth 100%, but have called the EPA and was directed to the Dept. of Agriculture.

call the state people who do the stations inspections and ask them to check it

Maybe we should line up a group buy on these-http://www.fuel-testers.com/order.html

They give a decent discount for bulk purchases. E free is almost a buck more where I get it. If I am getting ripped off I am going to flip out on someone.

I have a home made test kit that appears to be very accurate. If the pump can select both E and E free there will be some ethanol left in the pump and hose that can be detected in the gas. If it is a shared pump, I always put the first few gallons in my truck before I put any in the boat.

I have often wondered about those one hose pumps for 3 dif gases…would that even matter or would that small amount in the hose really show up in a test of that sort?

Can you elaborate on the home made tester plz?

I found a tall glass jar. I think it was originally an olive jar. I measured off two inches on the bottom and scored this line with a small machinist file. I then measured up six inches above this line and made an additional mark. I fill the jar to the first mark with water. I then fill it to the next line with gas and shake it up. Let it set for about five minutes. The water line will go up (water increases in volume due to the absorption of alcohol). I measure the increase in water volume as a percentage of the volume of gas. Example-- I/2" increase in water volume divided by 6" of gasoline = 8% alcohol. Most of the time it is between 1/2 and 5/8" increase in water volume.

What tanksgt made at home is similar to this http://www.wholesalemarine.com/tester-fuel.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwqamhBRDeyKKuuYztxwQSJAA1luvGpjgTjzT7jfrrqEyB-2vSMb6iqUMO8LW-LIM81JArDBoC_ujw_wcB. I have one much like this and always check the gas at a new station. I have a couple of places that I get gas at often and I will check them on a regular basis just to keep them honest. I’ve heard stories about ethanol gas in non-ethanol pumps, but I haven’t found any myself. If I did, I would immediately contact the Dept. of Agriculture. They are the ones that license fuel pumps and check their accuracy.

And so many Non E stations are owned by Indians,
Just sayin

I dont have to test. Above 80 degrees outside my outboard automatically vapor locks if there is ethanol in the fuel.
I trust my Indian owned non-e gas station.
If they change anything, I will know.
And they will know shortly after.

Just sayin what? Geez man. If you think ripping people off (if anyone is even actually being ripped off) is limited to one ethnic group, you have a LOT of learning to do. What does that add to the conversation?

Call it like I see it, of the very very few Non E INDEPENDANT gas stations a large proportion are Indian owned operated, in not so nice neighborhoods also, I think that’s very odd.
A Friend of mine supply’s fuel to gas stations and lots of shenanigans going on out there.
Sorry to ruffle your feathers, maybe I should get some Diversity training.
