Evening bite

Tomorrow is the first time evening fishing this year. Taking a friends 9 year old grandson for his first striper trip. Probably fish from five to eight PM. Iso the evening bite the same as morning right now. That has been 60 ft humps for me.

THANKS

Joby

I was out yesterday morning & couldn’t buy a fish. Heard the towers were “hot”. I started around Pine and Goat then fished humps, 50-60 ft. around Spence. Ended up at the towers for a little bit. No luck.

Bob if you saved/marked any of the spots I called you over to last yr, you should be catching fish. I haven’t; had a trip last over 2hrs with 3-4 people in the last 2 weeks except one trip when the bite was SUPER early because of the moon.

Joby, yes 50-60’ of water in the evenings has been good. I have seen bigger concentrations of fish during the evenings…have also noticed the “morning humps” don’t produce the same in the evening. Sometimes they are completely empt, and vise versa. My evening humps have been empty in the mornings.

Thanks Chip, I didn’t think they had moved deep yet.

I tried some of those spots with no luck. There were other boats around & they weren’t doing any better. I saw 3 fish caught all morning. I just wasn’t holding my pole right. LOL

We fished yesterday morning and I think it was generally more tough than it has been recently. I talked to a couple other people that said yesterday was completely different than the several days before. I’m sure some people got on them but the action wasn’t as wide spread as it had been I don’t think.

I went out last Monday and Friday mornings and limited out in no time with some 7-8 pounders in the mix. The fish were off the bottom in 80 feet just off the river channel. I haven’t fished any evenings. I took the family to Sandy Beach today and stopped where I caught them to see if I could mark. They’re right where I left em.

We caught a bunch of shorts and a few keepers on 60 ft humps. Good thing was we had the 9 year old and he caught his first striper and new personal best on the same trip. He had fun.

It seems like most of you guys are using bait versus lures but do you guys ever jig big spoons for them and if so, when does that bite generally pick up?

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

The Sunday before last we tore them a new one on big spoons…I only use the big spoons on spaghetti. I use deadly dicks/slammer/Hopkins when just a few fish are present…plenty of fish are eating spoons right now…

Thank you, sir.

We caught’em pretty good one day last year using the Parker Magnum spoons. It was a really fun bite so I’d like to give it a go again this year.

It’s on topic so will post our disappointment and what we saw Tuesday morning when I took our young pastor out on a little R&R trip. Went across lake and picked up bait at the dam before 0600. Since we were there, stopped at the Towers. Watched one boat in front of the big Tower bring in a few fish that seemed to be right around keeper size while another, a couple Towers in, were catching several obviously short ones. Our half hour yielded nothing so we left to work 50/60 foot humps in the big water. Marked fish from time to time at several humps, but never very many of them, and again no action. Finally found concentrations of fish on a point off of the south side of Pine Island. They were between 20 and 30 feet, but again no action. About 1000 worked another 50 foot hump north of goat. Saw numerous concentrations, again 20 to 30 feet deep. Finally managed 2 shorts and a few weak bites. Needless to say, the day was not what I expected. Next time is bound to be better unless I’m making some sort of new mistake I’m not yet aware of.

I see a few of yall talking about “keepers” and “shorts”. Yall do know it’s 5 and done on lake murray right now right? i just ask to make sure everyone is aware.

If I’m posting, its because I’m sitting here at work, dreaming about fishing.

I think it’s an easy way to describe the sizes being caught. I’m pretty sure anyone that striper fishes on Murray knows the 5 & done rule. (At least I hope they do)
