evening trolling

I took some advice from a couple fellas on here and threw out my u-rigs and started trolling singles on the downrigger and had some pretty quick succeess. i was on the water from about 6pm to 8pm. i caught the first 23" striper almost immediately on a stretch 25 30ft back and 60ft down on downrigger. i trolled for about another 45 minutes with no luck, started to think it was just a fluke. the i had two big hits on my large ben parker spoon, about 10 minutes apart, but wasnt able to get the hook set. finally on the third hit he took the hook and i reeled in a 24" striper. started trolling again and about 15 minutes later had another 24" striper hit the ben parker, reeled him in and then headed to the dock.

Nice…what a beautiful evening to have been out there. I got off work in time, but just didn’t have it in me to hook up and go.

Gonna try this evening for a couple of hours. Hopefully the storms pass through early again.

Edit: Running your line through the eye of a treble hook before trying on to the BP spoon will help with more hookups when trolling with them.

yeah the weather and water was fantastic, lots of boats out

Are you saying add a treble hook in front of the Parker spoon?

that’s an interesting idea

Alot of people have been adding a “free floating” treble in front of the BP spoons. As Tim said I have heard the results have been great.

Yea. Just run the line through it before tying on the spoon and let it slide down. I like using a treble with a long shank and a big enough eye to slip over the swivel. Not foolproof, but it helps.

Had bowhunter make me some assist hooks for the top of mine. I use these in some and trebles on the rest.

Naaaaa live bait is the ticket for the big girls. I have set a goal for this yrs boars season. From nov-may my goal is 15 fish over 20#. I will be happy with 10 but the target is 15. Granted they all will not be out of murray (I want 2 from murray), but all will come on live bait :wink:

Go to Tennessee for a week and you will have a good shot at multiple 20+ in a day. Few good spots up there#128515;
