so we are planning a late april trip to the glades for some oscar and peacock bass, has anyone here done this before? would like some info on a good place to stay and not have to worry about the boat and trailer and so forth. this trip will not be guided and there will only be 3 days allocated to fishing. any advice will be greatly apreciated. thanks to all.
the everglades is a big place. i think most of the best peacock fishing is in the canals around miami, and not so much in the glades. i’ve been to flamingo, and ran up into white water bay, and i don’t think you’ll find peacock / oscars back there. i’ve also been to everglades city, and i don’t think you’ll get peacocks there either.
i was lucky and had a friend that lived in southwest miami. the canal behind his house had peacocks, but i didn’t fish for them.
hope this helps (probably not). get a guide so you won’t be snake bait…and take a bug net.
thanks marshwabbit, wel be staying at the roland martin resort around clewsville i think thats right. a guide is out of the question as this is a budget trip but it will be fun anyway. i was trying to get some pro advice but after almost fifty reads i doubt its coming, still going any way, ready to haul ass south right now
You want to fish fresh water? Are you takeing a boat? Lot of good Largemouth Bass, Spec, and Shellcracker fishing a Clewston!
Yes im taking my boat, and will be fishing freshwater. Mainly gonna target those oscars, my brother went years ago so he kinda knows where to go just wanted some good
cfc advise
If staying at Rolands place, go South on I27 for about 45 mins to Holiday Park just past alligator alley, launch ramp, store, campground, etc. Fish the edges of the canals up and down from the park. Have wore the oscars out there with crickets quite a few years. Lot of bass fishing in the area too.
