Everglades

Anyone willing to share some knowledge about the Everglades? I am planning a trip to camp and fish for a week in march. Im trying to get real wild.

I went down there on a canoe trip there january of 2 years ago for 5 days. Canoed for 5 days and slept on small little islands at night in tents. January was very cold but it was by far the best trip ive ever been on. We didnt get to fish any but while paddling we could see a lot of fish. At the end of the trip we had paddled about 50 miles through the mangroves using a compass and a mpa only to navigate. Like i said, by far the coolest most amazing trip ive ever been on minus the fact we couldnt fish. Have fun, be safe, and take pictures! Sorry thats not much help but…just my 2 cents.

Put in and check in at Flamingo (southwest of Miami). From Flamingo, you can go Florida Bay side (south) Whitewater Bay (north). Lures like swimbaits, flukes or gulps on jigheads and flutter hooks work great. In March, the tarpon may not be there in great numbers. You will find lots of trout (3 of us caught around 200 in about 2 1/2 hours last March). You can always find redfish in the glades. Snook are not near as good due to the fish kill 2 winters ago. If you get to Shark River try to find a deep rock pile and you will catch gag grouper (fun to catch but out of season). Like bohicket said, take lots of pictures. Everglades is a magical place!

I am thinking about doing the same this coming feb/march. If you hit the weather right the tarpon fishing is nothing short of amazing. I have never done the camping thing and not sure how the chickee reservation deal works. i would suggest calling down to flamingo and getting the scoop from the park.

Two things are going to help with the responses…West/East coast, and what sort of boat are you taking?
