Anybody ever fished it by kayak and camped as well? I’m thinking of going somewhere south of Naples. Looking to go mid January so I don’t get eaten alive by the skeeters.
Thanks!

I’ve fished a lot down there but always stayed at a condo on Marco. There is a really cool canoe trail from Flamingo to Everglades City that has marked primitive campsites and chickees along the way.

This should get you started.

Have looked at Mosquito but I like the thought of being out in the wilderness more

IRL and Mosquito are both good places to go except some of those fish see a TON of pressure. If you make that trip I can point you to a few places where I’ve always been able to find fish. You can also camp on several of the “spoil islands” up and down the IRL and north of Haulover Canal on the ML. Done that and it’s fun since you can always boat over to Titusville and hit Dogs R Us for lunch! Lots of “Idle Speed” zones on both sides of the main channel but if you are in a kayak that won’t matter to you. You can always hop over to the Banana River and the NMZ up towards the Cape. Don’t forget the NASA/Navy helicopter circling you while the guy in the door points his M-60 at you…

Two different places - Ten Thousand Islands, and Everglades National Park.
If you put in at Chokoloskee or Everglades City, you can take the canoe trail (wilderness waterway) through the Everglades. Its 99 miles from one end to another and no joke. Pack for safety first and fishing second.
10,000 islands to me isnt near as remote and enjoyable. You have white beach campsites but boaters running all around.
Be happy to give you tons more information on the whole area. 843-991-8372

What Graham said. The Wilderness Waterway is no joke. Make sure your paddling and navigation abilities are ready for it. It will greatly cut into your fishing time having to make the next chickee before dark.
You can file shorter float plans at the Ranger station and reserve a series of 2 or 3 chickees/campsites closer together to maximize fishing time.
Fished all the way from Marco down to Lostman’s/Broad River so agreed two different areas. Always wanted to see the Flamingo end but had to stay where there was something for the family to do while I was off fishing.

Thanks Capt Graham. I’ll be in touch as soon as I hammer down some more details. Trying to get a friend to go, as that would certainly be safer
