Everything but Trout on Saturday

I went out with my wife for a day of fishing on Saturday. Grandparents had the kids at Carowinds! Although the tides weren’t great, we found some fish at every spot we tried. Started right at high tide in morning on a grassy island up by the 41 bridge (everyone knows that spot!) Lost one red but got another on small finger mullet with the tails cut off on a carolina rig. I find that at high tide the reds need a little help finding the bait. Moved to another spot up a creek off the Wando behind the next island south (you know that spot too), and picked up a couple more reds (one a nice 31") and a nice 17" flounder about 2 hours after the high tide. Got one red on a live finger mullet and one on cut mullet, the flounder was on cut mullet bouncing along the bottom. Also saw 6 or more clapper rails for those getting ready for that season. Next moved down to my favorite spot behind the next island south. Tide was really ripping at this point midway between the tides. Small standing waves at the mouth of the creek with some ladyfish busting shrimp and mullet. Caught one nice ladyfish on a mullet and decided to go to the beach at DI for a bit (what little there is left of it, sort of sad). After the beach and picking up some fiddlers we fished the 526 bridge pilings for sheepshead. Lots of little ones but no keepers. Kept a red and the flounder for the fryer. Nice day overall!

Nice day. Thanks for the rail hint
