Evinrude 150xp?

I currently have a 150xp on the back of my Wellcraft v20 dc. It ran when I purchased it from a friend in NC, but I haven’t done much to it over the past 6 mo. I have a few questions. 1) is it worth doing anything major to as I can’t get the tilt and trim to work on it. My friend said it worked before, so it may be a wiring problem on the boat. 2) How do I get the motor raised to work on it until I can get the tilt/trim functional? I remember you guys talking about a way to raise it manually and lock it up but I can’t seem to figure it out. 3) Any ideas on weather it was a good engine in its day, or if it’s just scrap? Thanks for the info. I believe it’s a mid 80’s model.

No sense giving up on it with having it checked out. Does the trim make a clicking sound whne you activate it? Could be soemthing as simple as a loose conection, or something as expensive as a trim motor. There is a release screw on hte side of the transom bracket. It is usually a lrager hole with an arrow around it, you can look thru the hole and see the straight head screw for releasign the trim. After you get teh trim down, do a compresiuon check. If it fails, your question has just been answered. BTW, check out wellcraftv20.com you’ll get some good feed back on there
