This old evinrude has 2 years ago had the power pack replaced and coil and wires… has run like a top. 3 trips ago while running 3/4 throttle(I have no tach) it drops a cylinder and runs on 1 till I get to where Im going. I restart and fine all the way back home 45 min or so. Next trip something similar happens. Sits for 2 weeks start at the dock and only runs on 1 cylinder. New plugs and its fine. The bottom plug was not firing because it was soaked… Last night try it again while trolling for 10 min the cylinder shuts down again and all the way home on 1 cylinder…In the driveway starts up on both after a cool down… Is this most likely the power pack again? Driving me nuts and really starting to cut into the fishin time…Jeff
Ran the boat with the old power pack yesterday…Ran fine… I don’t want to put the new one on until I figure its bad or not. Could a rectifier cause this as well .The new power pack says a bad rectifier will damage it if its bad?
Can’t help you with the rectifier, but had similar experience with a 2000 60hp Johnson a few years ago. Power pack went on it, an aftermarket power pack was put on, would run fine for a short time (less than an hour) then act up. Replaced with OEM power pack, no problems since.
SOUNDS LIKE A COIL BREAKING DOWN UNDER LOAD

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
Will try it and let you know
took a while because of work and a vacation. But last time out boat cut off and went to restart and it cranked slow. . Checked my battery wingnuts and 1 was hot but tight. . Figured maybe my 7 year old battery had a short or dead cell …replaced it and it runs smooth and no issues. So I have no idea if the power pack needed replacing but I had already done it so…maybe I have a spare…
