First, let me say I am no mechanic. This motor has performed extremely well over the past 12 years. It is so quiet, I am often asked at the landing if it is running or not!
Today while sitting at the ramp with the motor idleing waiting of my wife to back in the trailer, I noticed a noise that I had never heard before. Closer examination revealed it it an exhaust-type sound/feeling coming out of a small port hole just to the left of the water pump indicator on the back of the motor. You can hear and feel the exhaust coming out. The hole in the small port looks irregularly shaped almost like there was no hole there before but now one has opened up…poor way of exlaining it on my part!
I have never heard or felt it before and it concerns me as to what to do about it. Does anyone know what this is/may be and should I take it in to the mechanic who is “backed up for 5 weeks?”
homey
its not uncommon for those motors which are actually made by suzuki, to have corrosion issues in the exact area you are describing.
we are also backed up like every other shop, but we do initial diagnostic within a few days
Fortunately, it was not a problem. There was suppose to be exhaust coming from the referenced hole. The reason I had not heard it before was that the hole appeared to have previously been stopped up with dirt-dobbers nests.
The mechanic told me the hole is designed to help exhaust the engine primarily when it is idleing.
