Evinrude Bombadier

What is the deal with Bombadier motors. did they turn out to be not so good?

I think its a geographic location thing. I grew up in Wisconsin and you see plenty Evenrude’s up there.

Love my 60hp…if that matters at all:smiley:

So this just refers to the name of an evinrude motor?

Outboard Marine Corp. (OMC) built Johnson and Evinrude which were virtual twins. OMC failed and Bombardier bought them. Etecs are latter day Fitch motors. Seems they worked the kinks out of fitch tricks and ended up with a competent system. If my old Johnson ever dies, I’d certainly look at the etecs.

After a trip to Italy, and seeing all of the E tecs in Venice I came back and ordered a 250. Love it, no problems in over 400 hrs. Uses a third of the fuel I used in the blowen up 225 merc. I replaced. Hope to replace the 115 on my whaler with one next year! My son went to the Amazon in Peru and said the were 2 to 1 over the Yamahas.

I have spent plenty of time in Japan and I dont beleive I ever say a Yamaha, only Tohatsu. Goes to show that it’s all regional or by country even.

Thanks gentlemen; I was looking to purchase a boat that had an Evinrude 150 on it. On the front of the cowling it had a decal Bombadier. Guess I was thinking of the old Fight motors we were avoiding. Sounds like it would be a good motor, its a 2004. I knew the Johnsons and Evinrude were the same. I have a 2001 115 Johnson which is avery good motor.

Thanks again.

The old 115 OMCs are bullet proof, will last for ever if maintained properly!

As I said…my E tec has been flawless.

Have a 1970 Johnson 20hp Seahorse on my jon boat that is a mule.

Had a Tohatsu 30 on my last skiff and wouldn’t hesitate on buying another.
