My 48 hp evinrude seems like it goes into SLOW mode just because. I unhooked the temp sensor and it uses premix so I don’t have an oil tank to worry with either. Still the alarm goes off after 5 min and 2500 max rpm. The boat pumps water like crazy and the head is not hot. Im thinking power pack it is the original. It runs great up until the alarm goes off. I just have no idea what would set the alarm off with the temp sensor unhooked… Any ideas
Im going to replace the power pack and plug wires…Checked them at night and looked like 2 light bulbs glowing faintly. Should atleast make diagnosing easier once that is fixed
I don’t think the powerpack can make the alarm go off
the temp or oil sensor give the alarm a ground
then alarm sounds, and that makes the engine go into rpm reduction
you need to find why the alarm is going off
that’s what I thought as well. trying new wires, with all that spark under the hood who knows what is going on. get them tomorrow and see what happens. It is funny though the alarm never goes off on the garden hose. Only after I trailer it 45 mi to the water.
Thanks Chris
new plug wires and a CDI powerpack. Runs better than it ever has and the alarm doesn’t sound anymore
