Had a stressful ride out in the “thick”. Thank goodness for radar. Surprised to be passed by the other boats without it. Made it out to 100ft. and dropped two divers that missed the structure. Their first dives offshore with me, but skilled divers that I have known for years. My turn to go in and pleasantly surprised at the number of quality fish. First attempt at the “free-shaft” technique with a new Rhino. Miss first fish, but hit everything else I pointed at the rest of the day. Several rookie mistakes that ended up costing me two Scamps, one Gag and a shaft. Second drops were point on, and there was meat in the boat.
Thanks to Second Chance and other curtious boat captains out there. A pleasure to have people respect you with divers down.
Those guys in the KW brought the funnel and siphon back and headed in. We heard them later looking for Seatow again. They were still unerway but only getting 7-8 knots. That was probably a safe speed as bad as it was after dark. I am a huge advocate of radar now!
Ben it was good to see you again! Glad you got some meat in the box! To bad the sharks had a great dinner maybe next time!! And man the fog last night coming back in glad you left when you did I agree with bg on the rader! Hats off to captain gregg one hell of a captain! Give me a call next time you get out and good luck!!!
Yep we eventually made it back cruising the whole way at 8 knots. With all that fog and no radar, much faster would’ve been unsafe. Thanks so much for the assistance on the water.
