Since I’ve had my motor, DF90 Suzuki, it’s always ran quiet as can be and if anything, sometimes hard to even tell it is running when idling.
Now, all of the sudden, when I crank it up and have it idling the sound of the exhaust is definitely noticeable. Hard to explain, but almost sounds like the sound of a very small 2 stroke outboard running.
Appreciate any pointers as I’m not sure where to even start.
Need to check plug on left side of motor under the plastics to see if you have a corrosion issue. Suzuki put a cast iron plug into the aluminum cast that caused a horrible corrosion issue. To better explain Google it.
Thanks all for the replies. I did order a water pump kit, since its about time even though it may not have anything to do with it.
Sleepd, I actually remember seeing that discussed on here a long time ago and had forgot about it, thinking I was safe because I am running in fresh water 90% of the time. Maybe not. I’ll check out that plug this evening.
No signs of any corrosion around my plug, but still got an aluminum replacement plug on the way. Some pretty scary stories on $$$ damage done by this issue out there.
For anyone with a DF90/115/140 from 2001-2007 and still running with the SS plug, this is the replacement part.
I had to dig this up again. I found the reason for my extra exhaust noise. The port directly next to the tattle tale used to have a plug in it, now it is missing. It seems to be exhaust coming from the hole where the plug used to be. I searched and found it to be a common occurrence. I don’t think it’s really causing a problem, just annoying.
