Dang, just saw this post.
Actually spoke to Opti (Dave)on the phone yesterday prior to placing an order for 50 jigheads plus several other items. Shared lots of helpful advice that he knows from personal experience.
Know a Trout and Red guru in Bft, and he loves those Jigheads!
Don’t limit yourself to the salt either. Great in the freshwater for bass and stripers!

As for the spot on the redfish tail, I’m not sure it is there so they can escape. Fish can’t swim very well with their tail missing. I’m not sure that predators hit the tail thinking it’s an eye. I’ve had LOTS of fish bitten in two while I was fighting them. It seems to me that a predator attacks the tail to immobilize its prey. These red snapper have no spots on their tails. EVERY red snapper I’ve had bitten looks just like these. Sharks bite off the tail and then come back for an easy meal.

By law you have to return those ARS! Watch the swim away.
The redfish’s fake eye works when the redfish is idle, the attacker mistakenly processes the fake eye as the head of the fish, thus coming at the fish’s head to attack what he thinks is the tail (notice that the redfish’s real eye is hard to see). The redfish can then make a quick change in direction and get away because he sees the predator coming directly at him.
I always heard it was not good to hold them big bull reds up with the Boga Grip. Never realized it would make their tails fall off.

Fish aren’t the only animals to use fake eye placement as self defense… it is definitely for survival!
On to the jigs… I lost a very nice, well over 30in creek spottail, due mostly to my own doings and not fighting the fish properly… however I feel like if I had the trout eye tied on first, even with my own mistakes, I think my chances of landing this fish would have increased exponentially! That day I tossed all my light wire gamakatsu’s in the trash and haven’t looked back! The trout eye jig are top quality products made my local fisherman! Thanks for everything you guys do Opti!

No doubt you can catch just fine on a plain lead head, I have done so myself. Our thought going into this is that a fish keys in on an eye shape to make a split second decision of what is passing by is food or something else. So, we made a jig with the biggest eye possible. I really don’t think the color makes a whole lot of difference, it’s more the eye profile. For example, most inshore fish don’t see the color red, same as a deer doesn’t see hunter orange, yet the red eyes perform well. Probably because the fish sees the eye profile hue rather than color. The cost has to do with the components. The hook is a Mustad Ultrapoint, the best hook available, IMO, and not cheap. The eyes are not stickers, but 3D eyes. The designs are modeled in CAD and 3D printed, not molded with clay. We tried to make a top quality jig. I truly believe that the strikes I get are more aggressive using our jigs, and have thousands of customer testimonials as well. If you don’t buy into it, that’s cool. It’s a local product and we appreciate your support, and I can assure you, the business is a not-for-profit, if you get my drift! If anyone is interested in coming by the shop we are at 7341B Peppermill Parkway and we will give you a tour. Thanks, Dave

I really like the looks of your jig heads, and the big eye certainly can’t hurt anything. Have you ever considered adding the screw lock to your jig head? I have been using them for several years and have found that, for me, that method keeps the plastic on the hook longer than anything else I’ve used. I’m sure the
Not really, because they are purposely made to handle zmans elaztech. Their material doesn’t work too well with screw locks but our barbs grab it like nothing else. We are partners with and huge supporters of zman

Thanks. I’ll give yours a try without the screw lock. I like the eyes…and your hook.

I just ordered a couple of packs. If I get ‘em this week, I’ll post some photos with your jig heads in BIG trouts’ mouths. I’m going back to my fish camp next weekend…and things could get ugly leading up to the full moon on June 9.

Harold, you will like the TT jig heads, I fished them in the Wando last Oct. and Nov. and we did very well , very well! I have 2 more bottles of the HogWash coming from Summerton this wknd to FP. I like it on chops and country ribs. I don’t normally care for mustard but your sauce is a combo in the best way.
The Z man baits are hard to get on a screw on keeper on a jighead, the TT jigs hold very well once you get the bait on it, I caught 18 trout and never had to change tails, maybe a little adjustment but not much.Red eye or pearl has been my goto. I plan on taking them to the Chandeleurs in the fall and slaying the fish. I like the Zman baits but the salt series of TT bodies is hard to come by in colors I fish. If I go to the club in Awendaw this wknd, I will stop by the store in N Chuck and get my colors.
Circling back on this topic, hwilcox ordered some of our jigs to try. I put a few packs of our weedless jigs in there for him to try also. He sent me a couple bottles of his hogwash as a thank you which was really cool…I gotta say that stuff is the real deal! Probably the best I’ve ever tried. Thanks Harold
