Our seminar is coming up this Wednesday, 5/22. Ralph and I spent the afternoon with Capt Ben yesterday comparing my Simrad and his Humminbird units and getting comparative screen shots on the same structure. It was VERY imformative. I learned a ton in the first 5 minutes with him on my boat showing me things he’s learned.
If you are interested in learning more about your sonar and how to use it effectively, come on our to our seminar on Wednesday. We will also have our shop open with 10% additional discount and a bunch of giveaways.
I’m hoping that people leave this one saying “Wow…” and I think that will be the case. Hope to see you there.
If only y’all were closer

Wow, I plan on being there…thanks for the reminder!
Are you running the TotalScan or Active Imaging transducer with your Simrad? I noticed when I upgraded to 18.3 my TotalScan looked like it had more detail. Very curious to see how the different units perform.
I’ll just say this… and leave the rest for the seminar. I was using StructureScan HD… just purchased ActiveImaging transducer for arrival on Sunday

Thanks Dave, I’ll be there. I just bought a Simrad with the active I Trans and would love to get a jump on the learning curve. It’s still in the box as of now till I get a piece of acrylic.

I’d just like to say thanks for a very informative seminar. Everyone there took some good information home.

Yessir! I sure learned a lot and also confirmed some suspicions as well!
I wasn’t expecting it to last so long, but in all honesty, this could have been an 8 hour class and still not cover everything! Sometimes learning can be fun, and this time it was!
Thanks again guys, looking forward to part 2!

Would love to have attended. I read somewhere they were going to try and post a link to be able to view the seminar after the fact. Is that link available anywhere?

I thought it was an excellent presentation as well. Things I learned:
> Most of these things have pretty inferior “Auto” settings
> Adjust the gain/sensitivity aggressively
> Adjust the color/contrast but you really need a color palette that causes the shadows to pop for your eyes and the real trick, the hard targets you’ve got to be able to pick out. He kept showing the floats on docks as being this bright thin line but it would have been almost impossible for most to pick up even standing in front of a 16” Evo3 screen. Popping shadows and hard target separation is tough to get with one palette.
> The side scan range should be pretty wide, most of the screenshots were 10:1 ratio of water depth to side scan range, I think the Simrad’s run at 2:1 in auto mode.
> Go slow, again most of the screenshots were around 2 MPH
There was a good bit of emphasis on mounting the transducer properly. There wasn’t a here’s how I did it section but it was made clear good mounting is a foundation you can’t just half way do it and expect to get the results he was showing.
Thanks guys. The subject is pretty broad, but I feel like Ben did a great job of going into more depth and giving out lots of “pro-tips” on proper setup, use and interpretation. We couldn’t possibly cover it all, but perhaps we will have more seminars on the subject in the future. My vision for these is that they are more like a class than a typical seminar. We like to try to go above in beyond in everything we do at Eye Strike, so yes, they will tend to be long. That’s why we included a pee break in the middle
I feel like we met our goal for this first seminar and we thank you all for coming! We’ll plan our next one for probably sometime this Fall

I filmed the seminar, and much of it was in a darkened room so I will have to import it and see how the quality is. If its up to snuff I’ll break it into 20 min (ish) segments and post on our You Tube page. I’ll let you know if and when that happens. I’d like to thank Capt Ben Powers (reeltimecharters) for really putting a lot of time and effort into preparing for this awesome seminar. He is one of the nicest, hardest working watermen out there and we are proud to be friends with him.

I absolutely agree on the goal being met! Thanks again! And yes, Ben did and excellent job imo! Also, if he were a little taller, he looks like he could be your 3rd son Opt, maybe that’s why y’all get along so well haha

I drove from Orangeburg to attend and have anew unit not installed until next week with side view. Everything is new to me and what I took away was well worth the trip. Like others have said a lot of fine tuning.
Thanks, Dave and Ben

Would really like to see the video. I hate I was not able to get down to Charleston to attend.
I’m actually sorry I was fishing and not able to attend the seminar. I’d sure like to see the videos whenever you get them uploaded. Thanks in advance!
