Fall Get Together

Just wanted to give Striperskiff a shout out for hosting yesterday’s tough fishing get together. One of the harder days of fishing I’ve experienced in some time. But it was a great outing and was great putting names and faces together…Thanks Striperskiff for being proactive…

Tough fishing for sure, but turned out to be a fun day with some old friends and meeting some new ones.

Spoon, the striper fishing was as slow as the bass fishing. Only 2 boats had any keeper fish at all to weight in. McKeepin weighed in 1 fish caught trolling at 6.25lbs that turned out to be the big fish. Limitout weighed in 3 caught on topwater and had the 2nd place fish at 4.75 lbs.

I believe Fogman had a short fish on a spoon that was the only fish caught on a spoon. We happened to see quite a bit of schooling, but they were moving fast and not staying up very long at all.

Hey Tim, I hate that I could not make it. Even though I’m not much of a striper fisherman, it would have been fun to meet everyone and spend some time on the lake. I’ll keep a look out for the next one and maybe things will be different.

I wanted to thank you too, Tim.
John and I had a good time, and the weather couldn’t be beat. It was much nicer than last years get together. Catching something would have been better. At least we weren’t the only ones who got skunked.
Oh well, maybe next time.

Tim, well done with the get together. We do not fish artificals much at all so we had low expectations for the fishing. Caught about six on the umbrella but all were short. We accomplished what we really wanted to do which was to meet some of the folks who post here and we had not fished with before. We did that and hope to see you all on the water. It is now getting time for winter planer board fishing. My favorite time to fish.

Joby

Tim, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. I caught some “bug” at the office (between Thursday and Friday) and the ugliest flu-like syndrome I’ve ever experienced. Hoped to get better by Saturday tourney but didnt. I’m on Tamiflu and Zithromax and feeling so so. Hope to return to work Monday. On a side note, my brother and his daughter took my boat since it was ready with all the plastic lures and stuff and caught a 21" striper on some spoon he says and a few perch around the big gap. Thanks for putting this together.

Want to add our appreciation for the effort to Tim for putting this event together, and especially as he was kind enough to take us on board when our boat got marooned in the marina. While it made us really appreciate of using live herring, it was also good to correct a few flaws in our “artifical” technique. Maybe next time. It was nice meeting some of the folks that we’ve followed their posts on the forum and the food was tasty.

Finally, as this was our third endeavor at this event, this may be the most under rated tournament on the lake. Don’t know what it is, but it looks like the fish put it on their calendar also, and weather has been from perfect to “you got to be kidding me”. It definitely separates the men from the boys and just bringing a fish to weigh-in has been a big accomplishment. To win it must rate up there with scaling Everest without ropes and oxygen, or trekking to the South Pole in a thong.

Anyway, lots of fun. Thanks, Tim.

Thank you Tim. Sorry we had to head out early dad and I both had fun. We were just glad to get on the water before having to go to my brothers wedding. Hopefully next time we will get to stay and meet everyone!

Riff, glad you were at least make it out to fish. Congratz to your brother and hope you made it back in time for the pics.

Michael, you’re right. It does seem kind of odd that the fish always seem to be biting right up until we plan a tounament. I know anyone in their right mind knows they can’t be monitoring this site as there is no way they could be getting WiFi under the water.

But…With that said, there is definately someting going on. So, just in case, next time (spring w/ live bait), I will post all the details as far as weigh in site, times, etc… on here, but the date will only be communicated through PMs!

Tim, thanks again for putting it all together. Though the fishing was not good, the event was nice for fellowship and food. It was good to get to talk face-to-face with some of our posters I never met in person as well as old friends. Sometimes, it’s not about the bite.

I caught 3 fish on the spoons-- an 8 pound channel, a white perch, and squealer striper in 3.5 hours. The first half our was spent looking for schools. Never happened for me. Oh well! I know where I’m going with bait next Saturday:)

My day wasn’t too great. Started off with both fishing partners oversleeping, then they had to drive slowly in the fog. We finally got started fishing around nine or nine fifteen. Went to where the perch were yesterday and they were gone. Saw schooling fish, went there and I caught three undersized stripers. Finally got on a few perch. Only kept 8 perch and 1 big bream. My partners did manage to keep 1 fish each. I needed Fog or his Dad in the boat today to help catch those guys a mess of perch. In their defense the bite was pretty slow. When the perch are feeding you almost can’t work the spoons wrong. All but 1 fish hit the white/silver 1/2 ounce Berry spoons. The oddball hit a gold War Eagle spoon. We tried several other brands, sizes and colors without any strikes. Fished spots from 17’ to 40’ with most caught between 20’ to 25’. All in all, an almost embarrassing fishing trip.

Tim,

Great time just too bad the fishing was off …

Next year you need to do it on Sunday …

22", 23", 23.5", 24", and a 27.5" …

All on topwater in the back of Rocky Creek …

We’ll do it again next year … On Sunday … LOLOLOL

it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!

What happened to the weather lately. Sunday I could drift down the river. Monday forced me to head down to my secret bream/bass honey hole… I will not disclose the location… I would’ve rather been at the rapids with an ultra lite for trout. Anyways the spot produced eight hand sized bream and a five pound largemouth. Hope the weather gets cleared up. Good luck and tight lines to all.
