Fat Trout/Fish ID?

Went to one of my favorite creeks this morning. Got there a little before 7am at low tide and was greeted with 66 degree weather and a slight drizzle. Water temperature was barely above 70. Used a carolina rig with mud minnows and tried my new disco prawn gulp 2 inch shrimp. Worked around docks and grass banks. Managed to catch 6 flounder, all were under 14 inches. Caught 3 trout, only one keeper. Caught 3 odd fish that reminded me of a gar but I’m not sure what they are, possibly lizard fish. They looked like they were running on top of water. Hooked into a nice sized flounder, probably 16 to 18 inches. Got off the hook right before I could net him. Fish hit all day, ended up leaving at 4pm. I recommend the disco prawn color of gulp shrimp and the zman houdini paddlerz.

17 inch trout, caught on a 3 inch mud minnow.

So I guess this is a lizard fish. Never caught one before.

Jealous! I’m glad you had such a good day though. I wish I could have joined you.

Two good things

catching Lizard fish means your on the bottom

2nd If you catch enough of them you can cure the skin and make a pare of cowboy Boots - I was told by an old timer

lol I’m going to need a few more to make some boots. They were in less than 4 feet of water surprisingly.
