Father son trip

Well, I have finally was able to get my son in the boat. Bright and early I wake him 5am to be exact. After a couple of cups of joe. We hit the road and are putting in at 6am.We beat the traffic, so far a good day. My goal, is to put him on some bull reds. My first time in pursuit of these majestic bruins. So I have plenty of doubt heading out.

Perfect morning the moon was full.
We anchor and I put out herring and mullet chunks, nothing, Pull up anchor drift a bit still nothing. Anchor up a little shallower trying to fish a drop off. Catch a nice whiting on the herring chunk. Yeah, he is now bait, cut him into chunks and set him out behind the boat. minutes later a bonnet head. What a fight! Release him rebait. Next two rods go off and during the chaos we lose one fish but manage for my son to settle in for a hard fight. Finally we land the fish. A bruiser Red. It was the biggest I personally had ever seen But was absolutely amazed when it dwarfed the dnr tape! It was much
longer than the entire sticker! Shocked! Excited! My son is like can we keep it, I break his heart for a second. " No son, we have to release him back alive" He understands, its all about conservation of the species and nods. Take a few quick pics and release alive and well. I mark the boat the fishes total length.

Get home, measures out to 43In.
Job well done, finally got my son hooked on fishing. The fiberglass reproduction will set me back about $450.00. But, the experience with my son is priceless.

“I believe in the cosmos. All of us are linked to the cosmos. So nature is my god. To me, nature is sacred. Trees are my temples and forests are my cathedrals. Being at one with nature”

Yeah, baby. That’s a great day for sure.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
