I wrote this poem a few years ago and posted it here for my daddy. Russ called me right after it posted and I could barely make out what he was saying…and then realized he was crying. He said it reminded him so much of his daddy…and went on to say that he noticed strangely enough that my daddy and his daddy had the same tattoo on the same arm…and that it just had to mean that we were family we laughed and laughed at that. He told me I should make a book of it for Father’s Day…not enough time I said.
Father’s Day we were just sitting down to dinner when the door bell rang and in rushes in Russ with that big cheesy grin" and I’ve got a secret and I’m about to bust to tell you" look on his face And twinkle in his eye. Here he says…and he hands me copies of this poem and pictures in a spiral bound book he had his friend kevin make. Well daddy, momma, my sister and brother in law all took one and read it…then daddy started crying.. Oh lord!! We were all speechless!!..and that’s saying a lot for my family
! I’ve rarely seen daddy ever cry…and here he was crying…then it passed around the table like a wave…and everyone …including Russ was crying…then we laughed and laughed at how we had all Been crying over a poem. But it wasn’t just the poem…it was the length that a friend would go to present this gift to me and my family.
This poem is posted again in honor of my daddy…the best daddy anyone could ever be blessed with…but also in honor of Russ who touched our heart and lives In So many ways…and still does. He will always be here with us…and every Father’s Day I will smile and say a special thank you to Russ who I know is watching from above…and smiling.
Happy Father’s Day to all of you…and thank you God for blessing me with my wonderful daddy…and friends like Russ
I met with a buisness man today, and he wore his “business” suit,
A pair of rubber coveralls and rolled down “shrimpers” boots.
