Do any of you regular Trout Eye jighead users have a favorite eye color that seems to produce more hits than others in our Charleston waters? Do you find different species prefer one color over another?
I was a chartreuse Cotee Liv’Eye jighead fan for years, but they are not made anymore and my supply is getting low. I am looking to pull the trigger on a bulk buy of the Trout Eyes.
We get this question a lot, and here is what I tell everyone. We believe the eye profile is the most important thing, and color is secondary. In very clear water we suggest more natural colors, like Pearl and Gold. In poorer visibility, I point people to Glow and Chartreuse, as I feel they are visible from a little bit further away in those conditions.

The old chartreuse Cotee jig eye had an orange day-glo band around the black pupil of its eye which I feel contributed to it getting more hits as compared to other jigheads of the time. I think I will look into getting some of the day-glo Trout Eyes for sure. I grew up fishing the Stono which has murkier water than the Wando, on average.
My go to color is gold. If you look at the fish we catch, their eyes match the gold color pretty well. With that said, I’ll be switching to red eyes only on overcast/cloudy days. A friend of mine out fished me using the same plastics but he had a red jig against my gold on a very overcast day. That’s my theory for now at least.
I’m a red or gold fan . I bought the assortment pack with all the colors.Good question, maybe pea and some of the other sages will weigh in.
Yeah, cuz lord knows Optiker doesn’t know a thing about these jig heads…

Looks like opti has a groupie.
More like there’s someone that believes those that designed and use these jig heads more than anyone on the water know more about them than others…but whatever you need to tell yourself. That said, Optiker is good people and there are far worse people to be a “groupie” of.

Keep sucking up bang, maybe you’ll get that job at the eye strike store. I didn’t see your reply to the OP ,do you have an opinion or are you just gonna parrot what Opti says? I didn’t disagree with your hero, I just replied with my experience as gigamortis requested.

Sorry, on my way to respond to the OP, I got tangled up in your big’ol pile of stupid and never quite made it there. So your “experience” was to recommend OP get advice from people other than one of the people that designed the jig head and use it more than anyone? Like I said, big’ol pile of stupid. Thanks for verifying that for us all.
OP, so as to not further anger sman, my go-to colors for Eye Strike jig heads are pearl in clear water and red or glow in dirtier water. When I’m smallmouth fishing, I prefer the chartreuse regardless of water color.

Sorry bang but no one agrees with you ,I reckon you are used to that. You should get a job with the liberal news media the way you try and spin things.
I’m sorry your lack of reading comprehension led you to believe I was looking for someone to agree with me. Pretty standard stuff for your though. You lack the mental capacity to carry on an adult conversation so you resort to school yard antics and insults. I appreciate your lack of originality though. No, really.
