I am looking for ideas on everyone’s favorite trolling spreads. I have a number of options on my CC boat:
Center rigger baits (two lines)
Dredge
Squid chains
Naked ballyhoos with circles
Planer rod
Downrigger with planer
Long and short rigger line with jhooks with skirts
For this time of year offshore what would you run??
Well I am a very casual weekend fisherman, and far from an expert but since no one else is jumping in I will give it a go.
We run skirted ballyhoo off both long outriggers, usally little stubby or some equivalent.
Squid daisy chain off port short rigger with a naked ballyhoo off the flat line close to the squid teaser.
Naked ballyhoo off the starbord short outrigger, close to dredge.
Way back line on the center rigger, frequently a wahoo wacker or some subsurface with ballyhoo. If it looks like a color is hot will will change to that color to get missed strikes.
If we are inshore or at the ledge will pull a skirted ballyhoo off the downrigger. If we are beyond we will run a dredge off the downrigger instead in hopes of attracting a billfish.
Frequently we will run a cedar plug off teh long center line for blackfin.
